The Indian Army on Monday said the face-off resulted in “minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides.”

The clash near Yangtse along the LAC in the sensitive sector took place last Friday amid the over 30-month border standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh.

Congress MPs have given adjournment notices in both houses of Parliament to discuss the border situation with China.

While Manish Tewari has given a notice in the lower house, Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Syed Nasir Hussain have given similar adjournment notices in the upper house.

Some Indian Army soldiers were reportedly injured in a clash with Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh on December 9. Confirming the development, the Indian Army said in a statement, "In certain areas along the LAC in the Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh, there are areas of differing perception, wherein both sides patrol the area up to their claim lines. This has been the trend since 2006."

"On 9 December 2022, PLA troops contacted the LAC in Tawang Sector, which was contested by our own troops in a firm and resolute manner. This face-off led to minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides."

Indian Army chief General Manoj Pandey had last month termed the situation along the LAC as "stable but unpredictable." The India-China border had been relatively silent amid ongoing rounds of discussions between the military leadership of both countries.

Despite India and China having 16 rounds of consultations achieving some de-escalation, several issues still remain unaddressed. With the onset of winter, Indian armed forces had started fortifying its infrastructure along the border. The Army chief stated that India's actions on LAC are being carefully calibrated to be able to safeguard our interests and sensitivities.

"A reform is a correction of abuses; a revolution is a transfer of power": Historic mistake corrected - Karnataka BJP govt renames 'Salaam Aarti' started by Islamic tyrant Tipu Sultan to 'Namaskara', Hindu organizations long pending demand fulfilled

Under pressure from right-wing groups, the Karnataka government has decided to rename some of the names of rituals conducted at several temples across the state.

Acting on the recommendations of the Karnataka Dharmika Parishad, the state government has decided to rename rituals which were opposed by pro-Hindu groups.

A meeting held by Karnataka Dharmika Parishad on November 2, recommended the government to rename rituals like 'Devatagai Salaam', 'Salaam Aarti and Salaam Mangalarati.' Instead, the Parishad had asked the government to rename these with 'Devatagai Namasakara,' 'Aarti Namaskara, Mangalarati Namaskara,' respectively.

The members of the Parishad were of the opinion that 'Salaam' is not a Sanskrit word and hence it was necessary to change it with a Sanskrit word of similar meaning.

Muzrai Minister Shashikala Jolle in a statement said that only names would be renamed and rituals will not be changed. "After elaborate discussion at the Dharmika Parishad, it has been decided to rename some of the rituals.

Only the names are being changed and there will be no change in the rituals. Devatagi Salaam will be renamed as Devatagi Namaskara, Salaam Aarti will be renamed as Aarati Namaskara and Salaam Mangalarathi as Managalarathi Namaskara," the letter read.

'Salaam Aarti' was a ritual started during the time of Tipu Sultan in Mysuru. It is a ritual practised in various Hindu temples across the state. The government is likely to issue an official order in this regard soon. This order will be applicable to all the temples coming under the Muzrai Department. These rituals are conducted at several famous temples including, Kolllur Mookambike temple, Shri Mahalingeshwara temple in Puttur, and Kukke Subrahmanya temple among others.

In March this year, when the hijab issue was at its peak, several pro-Hindu groups had raised objections to such names and have been demanding to replace them.

"We are all born gifted. That is our true inheritance": Supreme Court observes that female tribal is entitled to parity with male tribal in intestate succession, says "Not to grant benefit of 'Survivorship to daughter in father's property' is bad Law"

The Supreme Court recently observed that not granting the benefits of survivorship in father’s property to the daughter is bad law.

Not To Grant Benefit Of Survivorship To Daughter In Father's Property Is Bad Law: Supreme Court pic.twitter.com/fxoxrkkgQM

— Satyaagrah (@satyaagrahindia) December 10, 2022

A division bench of Justices MR Shah and Krishna Murari was hearing a plea of a woman who was deprived of her share in the compensation with respect to a land that belonged to her father. It was her claim that there may not be any justification to deny the right of survivorship so far as the female member of the ST community is concerned.

The Court urged the Central Government to amend the law as it is bad law stressing that it disqualifies a scheduled tribe (ST) woman from being considered on par with male counterparts in matters of her share in the paternal property.

The court went on to say that "the right to equality is for every citizen, if the right to property has been extended to the non-tribal daughters there is no justification as to why the tribal women must be denied the right".

“Female tribal is entitled to parity with male tribal in intestate succession. To deny the equal right to the daughter belonging to the tribal even after a period of 70 years of the Constitution of India under which the right to equality is guaranteed, it is high time for the Central Government to look into the matter and if required, to amend the provisions of the Hindu Succession Act by which the Act is not made applicable to the members of the Scheduled Tribes” the Court said.

The Court asked the Central government to consider if it was just and necessary and withdraw the provision keeping STs out of the scope of the succession law.

However, the court regretfully said that it cannot pass an order giving the women compensation stating that when there is a conflict of law and equity, the law must prevail.

"Give and take is Principle of diplomacy -- give one and take ten": US State Department says, India doesn't need to be placed on America's Special Watch List for religious freedom violation, Pakistan placed on the "countries of particular concern"

The United States has made it clear that India will not be placed on its list of ‘Countries of Particular Concern’ or ‘Special Watch list’ this year for violations of religious freedom.

"Our Annual Report on International Religions Freedom outlines some of the concerns we’ve taken note of when it comes to India, and we continue to carefully monitor the religious freedom situation in all countries and that includes in India" state dept pic.twitter.com/qOX4P3kee4

During the State Department briefing on December 6, spokesperson Ned Price, said, “When it comes to India, India of course is the world’s largest democracy. It’s home to a great diversity of faiths.” “Our Annual Report on International Religious Freedom outlines some of the concerns we’ve taken note of when it comes to India, and we continue to carefully monitor the religious freedom situation in all countries and that includes in India,” he said during the briefing.

This statement came as the Biden administration released the names of countries designated under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.

Under this act, the US government is required to annually review the status of religious freedom in every country in the world and designate each country the government of which has engaged in or tolerated “particularly severe violations of religious freedom” as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), according to The Australia Today.

During the press conference on Tuesday, Price said the US will continue to encourage the Indian Government to uphold its commitments to protect religious freedom for all.

He added the US government engage foreign officials regularly on steps they can take to advance religious freedom.

Earlier this week, the US Department of State said Cuba and Nicaragua were added to the list of countries of “Particular Concern”. Meanwhile, China, Russia, Iran, Burma, Eritrea, North Korea and Pakistan were retained on the list.

The Biden administration said that its announcement of these designations is in keeping with the values and interests to protect national security and to advance human rights around the globe.

“Countries that effectively safeguard this and other human rights are more peaceful, stable, prosperous and more reliable partners of the United States than those that do not,” the statement added.

"How a kidnapping ends depends to a large degree on who the kidnappers are": Telangana - Dentist Vaishali, a 24-yr-old girl abducted from her house in Adibatla, parents allege that around 100 youths barged into house and took their daughter, rescued

Hyderabad: A mob of around 40 men yesterday forcibly entered a house and kidnapped a 24-year-old Telangana woman on the day she was to get engaged, a chilling video clip of the incident shows. She was safely rescued after an hours-long operation by the police, and some of the accused have been picked up. A case has also been registered.

The woman, a BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) graduate who had been working as a house surgeon, was abducted from her own house, in Adibatla village of Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad in Telangana.

The woman's parents have reportedly alleged that around 100 young men barged into their house and forcibly took their daughter Vaishali away. Atleast 30 men could be seen in the video, vandalising the house, smashing car windows, and dragging a man out of the house and beating him up with sticks and rods.

It is definitely a serious offence. We spoke to the parents & took inputs. We'll inform further developments later. We've registered cases u/s 307 and other sections of IPC related to threatening. The family has accused a man named Naveen Reddy, who had allegedly been harassing the woman to marry her, of leading the mob and kidnapping her. Naveen has a franchise for a branded tea store and had put up a glass-walled cafe right opposite her home, in a movie-like romance. That was brought down and demolished by Vaishali's parents after her abduction.

Naveen went with workers from his tea stall, claiming his 'wife' refused to live with him, and he wanted to take her home. The woman was reportedly in a relationship, but claims she was not married to him. The police have arrested 18 people, but say the main accused Naveen is still on the run. They are trying to identify and arrest the others as well, they said.

Ibrahimpatnam police told NDTV that Vaishali is a dentist and daughter of an ex army man. She had met Naveen on a badminton court and the two had become close. Naveen is said to have even bought her a car from his multilevel marketing business that had raked in money.

Subsequently, Naveen reportedly proposed marriage, but she rejected the proposal. He had then harassed her on Instagram and other social media platforms, and she had filed a police complaint alleging stalking.

Yesterday, Vaishali was reportedly to be engaged when Naveen barged in along with about 40 others and attacked the girl's family, house and vandalised the car. They took the 24-year-old medico away but subsequently released her themselves, after which she called her parents.
