India has a long history and culture that dates back thousands of years. The government of India has declared plans to create the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum at the landmark North and South blocks of the national capital to highlight this rich cultural legacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present the ideas for this museum on May 18 at the International Museum Expo through a virtual walkthrough.

The Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum

The projected Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum will be located in the North and South blocks of the Central Secretariat complex. The name comes from Sanskrit and means "everlasting India." The museum would be 1.17 lakh square meters in size, with 950 rooms split across a basement, ground, and two additional storeys. The structure will house numerous parts, or 'khands,' tracing the evolution of Indian culture.

The Central Secretariat complex's North and South blocks were constructed in the 1930s. The South Block houses the Prime Minister's Office, the External Affairs Ministry, and the Defence Ministry, while the North Block houses the Finance and Home Ministries. In 2021, the government aims to convert the North and South Blocks into museums.

What will be on Display at the Museum?

The Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum will display India's 5,000-year-old civilizational culture. The museum will be divided into sections that will trace the evolution of Indian civilization. Exhibits covering Indian art, architecture, music, dance, literature, and philosophy might be expected. In addition, the museum will highlight India's contributions to science, technology, and mathematics. It will be a one-stop shop for anyone wanting to learn about India's rich history and culture.
