Hairs plucked, shoes hurled, and punches delivered: How 11 MPs in Lok Sabha caught and thrashed an intruder in parliament

On December 13th, the hallowed halls of India's Parliament witnessed an extraordinary display of unity and prompt action by its members. In what marked a significant breach of security, two men daringly jumped into the Lok Sabha well from the visitors' gallery amidst ongoing proceedings. The situation escalated rapidly when one of the intruders, in a brazen act, disrupted the session by tossing canisters that emitted yellow smoke.

A video captured from within the Lok Sabha reveals a spontaneous and united response from the members of Parliament (MPs) present. In the face of this unexpected intrusion, the MPs did not hesitate to take immediate action. They were seen assailing the intruder, an action that, while seemingly aggressive, underscored their collective commitment to safeguard the sanctity of the Parliament. The MPs resorted to plucking the hairs of the intruder, hurling shoes, and landing punches - actions driven by the need to subdue and contain the threat.

This incident, while alarming in its nature, showcased a remarkable spirit of unity among the MPs. Faced with a direct threat to the order and decorum of the Parliament, they transcended party lines and individual differences, uniting in defense of their revered institution. The MPs encircling the intruder symbolized not just a physical barrier to contain him but also a metaphorical display of solidarity and joint responsibility.

A remarkable and unified response by members of various political parties in the Lok Sabha has captured the nation's attention, becoming a viral sensation on social media. The visuals from the Lok Sabha, now widely circulated, showcase a diverse group of MPs from different political affiliations coming together in a rare display of solidarity.

Among those who first responded to the intrusion were Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs RK Singh Patel and Manoj Kotak. They were swiftly joined by Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Bahujan Samaj Party MP Malook Nagar, and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MP Hanuman Beniwal. These parliamentarians acted swiftly to apprehend the intruders, identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan, who had brazenly disrupted the parliamentary proceedings.

The situation escalated quickly as other MPs, including ShivSena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant, joined in. The involvement of members from various parties, including BJP, Congress, BSP, RLP, and ShivSena (UBT), in this incident, highlights a significant moment of cross-party cooperation and unity. In the visuals, around six to seven MPs can be seen physically holding the intruders, ensuring they could not cause further disruption or escape.

This spontaneous coalition of MPs across party lines is a powerful statement of their collective commitment to uphold the dignity and order of the Parliament. The MPs' prompt and decisive action in the face of an unprecedented breach of security underscores their shared responsibility towards maintaining the sanctity of India's highest legislative body.

BSP MP Malook Nagar offered a straightforward and vivid account of the unexpected and dramatic events that unfolded in the Lok Sabha. His narration provides a clear picture of how the situation escalated from confusion to action within moments. Nagar described the initial moments of the incident, saying, “Our procedure of Zero Hour was going when a loud sound came from the back… I thought somebody fell from the visitor’s gallery, or maybe somebody pushed…meanwhile, another person jumped…then it was clear that something wrong is about to happen. He [intruder] moved towards the seats of MPs in the well and was jumping…then from one side Hanuman Beniwal and from the other I rushed and the moment the intruder took out his shoes we caught him tightly and other MPs came and thrashed him.”

MP Nagar's description begins with the ordinary proceedings of the Zero Hour being disrupted by a loud sound, which initially caused confusion among the MPs. This sound, coming from the back of the chamber, was initially thought to be an accident in the visitors' gallery. However, the situation quickly escalated when another individual jumped into the area, signaling that something more serious was underway.

The MP detailed how the intruder began moving erratically towards the seats of the MPs in the well of the house, causing alarm. It was at this point that Nagar, along with RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal, sprang into action. Demonstrating quick reflexes and a sense of duty, they moved towards the intruder from opposite sides.

Nagar's account highlights a critical moment when the intruder took out his shoes, perhaps signaling an intent to use them as a weapon or a tool for further disruption. Reacting swiftly, Nagar and Beniwal, along with other MPs, were able to subdue the intruder.

The recent security breach in the Lok Sabha has brought forth candid reflections from the MPs involved, shedding light on the gravity of the situation and their immediate responses. BSP MP Malook Nagar, in a conversation with TimesNow, provided a personal perspective on the incident. He recalled his thoughts during the crucial moments, stating, “When one of them (intruders) started pulling out a shoe, mujhe laga ab ye weapon ki bajay joote chalayega (I thought he would hit us with shoes)…” This comment reveals the level of uncertainty and quick judgment required in such an unexpected situation.

Nagar's observation highlights the split-second decisions made by the MPs in response to the intruders' actions. His initial thought that the intruder might use his shoe as a weapon reflects the unpredictability of the event. This quick thinking is indicative of the alertness and presence of mind that the MPs had to maintain during this chaotic episode.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla shared his encounter with the media, providing further details about the breach. He mentioned that one of the intruders was heading towards the Speaker after jumping into the well, adding a layer of seriousness to the intrusion. Aujla said, “...He had something in his hand which was emitting yellow-coloured smoke. I snatched it away and continued throwing it outside…This is a major security breach,” highlighting the immediate threat posed by the intruder.

MP Aujla’s actions in quickly snatching away the object emitting yellow smoke demonstrate his proactive approach to mitigating potential harm. His ability to act swiftly in such a high-pressure situation underscores the MPs' readiness to protect the sanctity of the Parliament. Furthermore, his recognition of the incident as a major security breach emphasizes the seriousness of the situation and the need for stringent security measures in such high-profile venues.

The security breach in the Lok Sabha on December 13th led to more than just the apprehension of Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan. Additional individuals were detained in connection with the incident, revealing the extent of the intrusion. The two others detained outside the Parliament have been identified as a 42-year-old woman named Neelam and a 25-year-old man named Amol Shinde. This information points to a broader plot than initially understood. Notably, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that Neelam had been actively participating in the Farmers’ Protests earlier, suggesting a possible background of political activism.

This incident has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with netizens expressing their admiration and praise for the MPs who bravely confronted and subdued the intruders. Many are lauding the display of unity shown by the MPs, who, despite coming from diverse political parties and ideologies, stood together in defense of the Parliament. This unity, especially in a place often characterized by political differences, has been seen as a strong testament to the commitment of India's elected representatives to the nation's democratic values.

The timing of the security breach adds a layer of historical significance to the event. Notably, it transpired on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attacks, which resulted in the tragic loss of six Delhi Police officers, two Parliament security staff, and a gardener. This coincidence underscores the symbolic importance of the Parliament as a target and the need for unwavering vigilance to protect this 'temple of democracy.'

The additional detentions linked to the Lok Sabha security breach reveal a more extensive plot, while the unified response of the MPs has garnered widespread praise from the public. The incident, occurring on a historically significant date, serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by democratic institutions and the importance of collective action in safeguarding them.
