Gujarat: Farooq Pathan of Kheda tries to behead a Hindu woman for refusing his proposal, case filed against the absconding accused

In Gujarat, a disturbing incident has emerged from Kheda district, where a woman faced a horrific attack. The woman, belonging to the Hindu community, was assaulted by a man named Farooq Pathan from Muslim community, he also tried to behead her. This attack occurred after she declined his romantic advances.

The incident took place last Thursday, 14th December. The police have reported that Farooq Pathan, driven by rejection, attempted an extreme act of violence. He tried to behead the woman, an act that is as shocking as it is rare. Thankfully, the woman survived this brutal assault but had to be rushed to the hospital due to her injuries.

She is currently receiving treatment at SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad. Her condition, while serious, is being closely monitored by the medical staff there. The details of her injuries, while not specified, are understood to be severe, given the nature of the attack.

Meanwhile, Farooq Pathan, the man responsible for this heinous act, is nowhere to be found. He has been absconding since the incident, evading capture by the authorities. In response to this crime, the police have filed a complaint and officially registered a case against him. They are actively investigating to uncover more details and to locate Pathan.

This case has stirred significant concern among the local community. It highlights not only the issue of violence against women but also the extreme measures one might resort to when faced with rejection. The police are urging anyone with information about Farooq Pathan's whereabouts to come forward, as they continue their search to bring him to justice.

The tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Gujarat's Kheda district took place in a small village called Sanadara, located within the Galateshwar taluka. The victim, a 33-year-old woman and a resident of this village, has been at the center of this harrowing ordeal.

Her personal life has had its share of challenges. She was married in 2010 to a man from a nearby village. However, not all was well in their marriage. Due to some disputes and differences with her husband, she found herself returning to her father's house, where she has been living for the past three years. Adding to her responsibilities, she is a mother to an 8-year-old son, making her situation even more complex and sensitive.

The official complaint lodged by the victim sheds light on a troubling pattern of behavior from the accused, Farooq Abbas Pathan. Farooq, who had been living in Sanadara village for the past two months, had developed an unhealthy obsession with her. He was not just a passing acquaintance; his actions suggest a persistent and invasive pursuit.

Despite her clear and repeated rejections, Farooq did not respect her wishes. He is reported to have been stalking her, a behavior that is both illegal and deeply disturbing. His intentions were clear – he wanted to establish a romantic relationship with her. However, his means of pursuing this were anything but romantic. They were forceful and intimidating, showing a blatant disregard for her autonomy and consent.

On the morning of Thursday, 14th December, a terrifying event unfolded in the village of Sanadara, Galateshwar taluka, in Kheda. Around 7 AM, a moment of horror struck when Farooq Pathan, the accused, confronted the victim. This wasn't a mere encounter; it was marked by aggression and hostility.

Farooq Pathan didn't just approach the victim; he launched into a tirade of verbal abuse. His words were not just hurtful but also deeply offensive, involving caste-related insults. This aspect of the attack adds a layer of social discrimination to the already heinous act.

The situation rapidly escalated when Farooq, armed with a knife, physically assaulted the victim. He targeted her neck, a move indicating his intent to cause grave harm. In a desperate attempt to protect herself, the victim raised her hands to defend against the knife attacks. This act of self-defense, however, resulted in serious injuries to her wrists. The wounds were caused by the sharp-edged weapon wielded by Farooq, suggesting the violence and intensity of the assault.

During this horrifying ordeal, the victim was not alone. Her sister-in-law was with her, and she too became a target of Farooq Pathan's rage. He attempted to harm not only the sister-in-law but also extended his aggression towards the victim's son and father. This indiscriminate hostility towards the victim's family members shows the extent of Farooq's uncontrolled fury.

In the aftermath of the attack, Farooq Pathan chose to flee the scene, evading immediate capture. The victim's family members, witnessing this shocking incident, acted swiftly. They rushed to the victim's aid and immediately transported her to the local hospital for urgent medical care. This quick response was crucial in ensuring that she received the necessary medical attention in the wake of such a brutal attack.

Initially taken to a local hospital, her condition was deemed serious enough to warrant a transfer. She was referred to SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad, a facility better equipped to handle such severe injuries.

Upon her arrival at SVP Hospital, the medical team sprang into action. They conducted various necessary medical procedures and operations, indicative of the grave nature of her injuries. As of now, she remains hospitalized, receiving ongoing medical treatment. Her current condition highlights the severity of the assault she endured and the critical importance of the care she's receiving.

In response to this violent incident, the Sewalia police have taken decisive legal action. They have filed a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These include Section 326, which addresses voluntarily causing hurt by a weapon – a direct response to the use of a knife in the attack. Section 504 covers the insult with the intent to provoke breach of the peace, reflecting the verbal abuse and caste-related insults hurled by Farooq Pathan. Additionally, Section 506(2), pertaining to criminal intimidation, is also part of the charges, pointing to the threatening nature of Farooq's actions.

But the legal response doesn't stop there. The police have also invoked Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act and various sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. This inclusion is significant as it acknowledges the caste-related aspect of the verbal abuse the victim suffered. It shows an understanding of the broader social implications of the incident, beyond just the physical violence.

The police are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the case. Their objective is to gather all relevant details, understand the full scope of the incident, and bring the perpetrator to justice. However, as of the time of this report, Farooq Pathan remains at large. His evasion of capture adds a layer of urgency to the investigation.

In terms of documentation, OpIndia reports that it has access to the First Information Report (FIR). The FIR is a crucial legal document that officially records the details of the crime. It serves as the foundation for the legal proceedings that are now underway.

Farooq Pathan Threatened to Kill the Victim’s Son

A family member of the victim spoke to OpIndia to share more details about the dreadful incident that occurred in Sanadara village. This account provides a closer look into the terrifying moments of the attack. The family member described how the victim faced a life-threatening situation when Farooq Pathan attacked her with a knife.

“He tried to slit her throat, but her wrists received serious cut injuries as she tried to shield her neck with her hands. Her thumb had a narrow escape when he attacked for the second time with that knife.” These words vividly depict the victim's desperate struggle to protect herself. She used her hands to guard her neck, the primary target of the attack. This act of defense, while saving her life, resulted in severe cuts to her wrists. The mention of her thumb having a 'narrow escape' during a second attack emphasizes the closeness and repeated nature of the threat.

The family member revealed more than just the physical attack. They shared a chilling detail about Farooq Pathan's threats. He had threatened not only the victim but also her family, including her young son. According to the family member, Farooq had made harrowing threats to kidnap and kill the victim’s son while he was on his way to school. He didn't stop there; he threatened the entire family as well. This revelation underscores the extent of Farooq's menacing behavior and the fear he instilled in the family.

In response to these threats and the brutal attack, the family did not remain silent. They have taken a crucial step by lodging a police complaint.

Hindu Organizations also reached out to Help

In the aftermath of the violent incident in Sanadara village, support for the victim's family has come from various quarters, including local Hindu organizations. These groups, upon hearing about the attack, took immediate action to assist the family during this difficult time.

Bhavesh Kansara, a worker from Bajrang Dal in Ahmedabad, spoke to OpIndia about their response. "We rushed to the hospital along with our workers when the incident was reported." This statement highlights the swift action taken by the organization. Their presence at the hospital was not just a gesture of solidarity but also a means to provide support and assistance to the victim's family in a time of crisis.

Kansara further explained their ongoing efforts and objectives following the incident. "We are discussing what to do next after getting the details from the family. Our only aim is that the family should get justice and there should be awareness among the people on this issue and Hindu daughters should avoid getting trapped.” This part of his statement sheds light on the broader goals of the organization in the wake of this incident. They are not only focusing on the immediate needs of the family but also on the larger issue of safety and awareness in the community. Their aim is to ensure that justice is served and to raise awareness about such incidents to prevent them in the future.

Additionally, Kansara mentioned an interaction between Farooq Pathan's family and the victim's family. He noted that Farooq’s family had approached the victim’s family to discuss a potential solution to the situation. However, the victim's family has categorically refused any such proposal. This refusal indicates the victim's family's desire for legal justice and their unwillingness to settle the matter privately.
