Mumbai: 13 Arrested After Hindu Procession Was Attacked by Islamists in Mira Road, Devendra Fadnavis Reiterates ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy

In a recent development following a violent disruption in Mumbai, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has emphatically restated the state government's unwavering stance on maintaining law and order. This statement came in light of the police's swift response to an incident where a Hindu procession in Mira Road was targeted by a group of individuals identified as Islamists. The repercussions of this event have led to the arrest of 13 individuals linked to the attack.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, provided an update on the situation, underscoring the state's dedication to its "zero tolerance" policy against actions that threaten peace and harmony. He revealed that immediately following the incident, which occurred in NayaNagar in the Mira Bhayender area, he obtained comprehensive details about the unfortunate events of the previous night.

Fadnavis further emphasized that the police were given explicit instructions to implement the strictest measures against those found responsible for the previous day's assault. The focus is not only on bringing the perpetrators to justice but also on preventing any further unrest.

The police have appealed to the residents of Mumbai to uphold peace and harmony. They highlighted the promptness of their actions in responding to the incident. In tandem with these efforts, Fadnavis disclosed that the police are actively investigating the attack, delving deep to understand its full context and implications.

The Deputy Chief Minister conveyed that out of the assailants, 13 have already been apprehended. Moreover, a meticulous examination of CCTV footage from the area is being conducted. This analysis aims to identify and apprehend additional individuals who were involved in the attack, ensuring that all those responsible are held accountable.

In a strong and clear message, Devendra Fadnavis declared, “There will be zero tolerance against anyone who tries to take the law into their own hands and attempts to disturb the law & order situation in Maharashtra.” This statement not only serves as a warning to those who might consider disrupting public order but also as a reassurance to the public that the government is committed to ensuring safety and justice for all its citizens.

In response to a recent attack on a Hindu procession by individuals identified as Islamists in the Mira Road area adjacent to Mumbai, a significant increase in security measures has been implemented. The area is now under the watchful eyes of multiple security forces, including the local police, Mumbai Police, Palghar Police, Thane Rural Police, along with specialized units like the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), and the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF). This multi-layered security arrangement reflects the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing the situation.

The incident, which took place last night on Mira Road in the Thane district, has stirred a strong reaction from the Hindu community. In a display of unity and resilience, Hindus in the area have come together to celebrate Diwali, a major Hindu festival, in a manner that also serves to honor Shri Ram Lalla. This celebration is seen as a symbol of reclaiming their right to observe their religious traditions peacefully, especially after the attack which targeted their procession.

The location on Mira Road, where the attack occurred, has become a focal point of this newfound unity and determination within the Hindu community. Today, in a display of strength and solidarity, Hindus have organized a larger procession, with numbers significantly greater than before. This is a clear message that the community is awake to such threats and is determined not to remain silent or passive in the face of attacks on their religious practices and gatherings.

The increased number of participants in the procession today is not just a response to the attack but also an assertion of their presence and rights. It symbolizes a collective awakening among the Hindus in the area, underlining their resolve to stand firm against any form of religious aggression. This incident, along with the robust response from the community and the authorities, highlights the ongoing challenges and complexities surrounding religious harmony and safety in diverse societies like Mumbai.

Islamists Attacked Hindu Procession Celebrating the Arrival of Ram Lalla at His Birthplace

On the 21st of January, a somber incident occurred in Mumbai's Mira Road area, overshadowing the festive spirit of the Ram Mandir Pran Prathishtha in Ayodhya. As Hindus across the nation and internationally were rejoicing in the homecoming of Bhagwan Ram, a group in Mumbai faced an unexpected and violent encounter. The Hindu community, involved in a procession celebrating this significant religious event, found themselves under attack by an Islamist mob.

The procession, marked by the presence of vehicles adorned with flags of Bhagwan Ram and Bhagwan Hanuman, was an expression of devotion and joy. Participants chanting “Jai Shri Ram” added to the festive atmosphere. However, this peaceful procession was abruptly disrupted when they were assaulted by the Islamist mob. The attackers, armed with sticks and rods, targeted not only the individuals in the procession but also vandalized their vehicles and desecrated the religious flags, a deeply disrespectful act in any culture.

The severity of the incident prompted immediate police intervention. A heavy police force was deployed to the area to restore law and order, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The attack, characterized by its unprovoked aggression, has led to widespread calls for the arrest and punishment of those responsible. The mob's actions, which included targeting women in the procession, were especially egregious. Videos circulating from the incident depict the chaos, showing the mob throwing flags, damaging vehicles, and hurling insults at the participants.

In a recent disturbing incident in the Mira Road area, adjacent to Mumbai, members of the Hindu community have reported being attacked during what they describe as a peaceful march. According to their accounts, they were peacefully participating in their procession when suddenly confronted and assaulted by a group of Islamists. However, the situation was quickly brought under control thanks to the swift intervention of the police. Several individuals were detained, and the police have reassured the public that the situation is now under control.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jayant Bajbale, shared a detailed account with the news agency ANI. He stated, "The conflict between the two communities broke out at around 11 pm on Sunday when some people of the Hindu community were raising slogans in 3-4 vehicles in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road adjacent to Mumbai." This comment sheds light on the initial moments leading up to the conflict, highlighting the seemingly innocuous actions that inadvertently sparked the altercation.

Continuing his explanation, DCP Bajbale said, "Shortly after, an argument broke out between the Hindu community and some people belonging to the Muslim community. Seeing the deteriorating situation, the police vehicle immediately reached the spot and took some people into custody." This rapid response by the police was crucial in preventing the situation from escalating further.

Furthermore, DCP Bajbale added, "Several videos of the clash between two communities in Mira Road adjacent to Mumbai went viral on social media. A video of a person named Abu Shaikh went viral where he was seen provoking people. The person who posted this video has been arrested and MBVV police have sought two days of custody." This statement highlights the role of social media in amplifying the situation and the subsequent actions taken by the police to address it.

Mira Road is an area predominantly inhabited by the Muslim community. In the aftermath, the police took proactive steps to ensure the restoration and maintenance of peace. A significant measure undertaken by the police was conducting a flag march in Mira Road. This symbolic act is a display of strength and presence, intended to reassure the public and deter any further disturbances.

Police officials have described the incident as an 'argument and petty fight' between two groups, emphasizing that no major act of violence occurred. This clarification is important as it helps to prevent the spread of exaggerated or false information which can often lead to unnecessary panic or further conflict. In light of the widespread influence of social media, the police have specifically urged the public not to believe rumors that may be circulating online. In times of tension, misinformation can spread rapidly, exacerbating the situation, and thus, the police's appeal for caution in accepting social media reports is both timely and crucial.
